Externs
are expected to represent the AVMA while working with Congressional
Members, their staff, allied stakeholders, and Executive branch
agencies. Externs learn the issues facing the veterinary profession and
actively work to advance the AVMA's agenda. Externs are expected to
think clearly and stay focused under pressure, be result-oriented, with a
high drive to meet goals, have excellent written and verbal
communication skills, and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds
in varied social settings.
