Does it matter how long ago my coursework was completed?
Yes. Science courses 10 years and older are not accepted. However, if you can prove advanced coursework or career use of the scientific information that supports your mastery of the content covered in the old courses, you may submit a petition to waive the requirement.
Do I have to complete all required coursework prior to submitting my application?
No. You may take as many of the required courses during the Fall Semesterof the year in which you apply. However, you are only allowed to have one (1) required course remaining during Winter Qtr/Spring Semester of the year of matriculation.
Can I use Advanced Placement (AP) credits to fulfill prerequisite courses?
In order to receive credit for AP courses, they must be listed on official transcripts from a college or university you have attended.
What is the deadline for submitting GRE scores?
The test must be taken by September 30 and scores must received no later than October 15. You should request that ETS send the official GRE scores directly to us as soon as the test is taken. Make sure you include the Department which is 0617 and the GRE Code 1592.

My GRE scores are five years old. Do I need to retake the exam?
Yes. We do not accept scores older than 5 years.
How much Veterinary experience is required?
We no longer have a minimum number of experience hours. Admitted applicants have more than a 1,000 hours of quality "hands-on" experience in the veterinary field. Please remember that the quality of your veterinary experience is more important than the quantity. You are expected to have a realistic and appropriate perspective of the responsibilities of the veterinary profession. Your experience can be paid or volunteer. You want to be exposed to as many different aspects of the profession as possible.

I applied last year. Do I need to resubmit a new application?
Yes. While we do keep applications on file for one year, reapplicants are required to submit new letters of recommendation. Reapplicants are welcome to use the same references from the previous application, however, the evaluations and letters must be new. Additionally, reapplicants are required to submit updated transcripts only.
How do I establish residency?
Out-of-State Applicants, once admitted, are eligible to apply for residency after the first year of attendance in our DVM program. Please contact the

Can I transfer to OSU's College of Vet Medicine from another vet school?
At this time, we are no longer accepting tranfers students.
Is The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine the only vet school in Ohio?
Yes, we are the only veterinary college in Ohio.
Are Fall transcripts from the application year required for current applicants?

Where should I mail my transcripts?
Transcripts should be sent to the Office of Professional Admissions by October 2. One (1) official transcript for each post-secondary college or university you have attended should be mailed directly to the Office of Professional Admissions, The Ohio State University, P.O. Box 182003, Columbus, Ohio 43218-2003.
When are admissions decisions made?
Admissions decisions are made between December and April. No student is required to accept an offer of admission to any school prior to the national deadline date of April 15.
Can I defer enrollment?
No.
I have taken the GRE several times, do you combine the highest sections from each test for a total score?
Yes, we take the highest section from each test.
What kind scholarships are available for Veterinary students?
Students are considered for various scholarships once admitted.
What is the class size?
We accept 162 new students each year.
How will I know that you have received my VMCAS/Supplemental application?
After we receive your VMCAS application, you will receive an email link to the application. The supplemental application is due a week after you receive the email link. If we are missing any materials, we will contact you via email.
Does Ohio State offer a vet tech program?
No, we do not. Locally, both Columbus State Community College and Bradford School offer vet tech programs.
How do I know my college courses satisfy course requirements for veterinary school?
If you are taking pre-vet courses at the Ohio State University, refer to www.vet.osu.edu for a list of the required courses.

Are my chances of admission to the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine better if I attend Ohio State as an undergraduate and/or take required science courses there?
No. You may attend any accredited college or university. We do not have preferred schools from which we select applicants. We do however, consider the overall educational quality of your college experience; your course load (full-time vs. part-time); continuity of program; challenge of the curriculum; employment during education, and so forth.

Please remember that the quality of your veterinary expereince is more important than the quantity. You are expected to have a realistic and appropriate perspective of the responsibilities of the veterinary profession. Your experience can be paid or volunteer. You may acquire experience by working with veterinarians in private practice, farms, ranches, animal shelters, zoos, aquaria, laboratories, etc.
