Special Attraction for Open House 2014

The Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibit “Animal Connections: Our Journey Together” will be available to tour during Open House 2014. Housed in a mini-museum inside an expandable 18-wheeler, the 1,000-square foot exhibit introduces visitors of all ages to the human-animal bond. Wexner So You Want to be a Vet? (For middle and high school students) Current vet students will discuss ways you can prepare for vet school.
9:45 – 10:15 Dunlap Wise Up! Financial Aid 101: OSU CVM Edition Financial aid advisor, Lauren Heatherly, will discuss the basics of the Financial Aid process 
Wexner A Career as a Vet Tech Dr. Olive will discuss a career as a veterinary technician and its diverse career options. 
VMCA Feeding Healthy Pets by Dr. Valerie Parker. This will be an informal discussion on how to feed your healthy dogs and cats. Interpreting fact from fiction. Bring questions! 
10:30 – 11:00 Dunlap Life as a USDA Veterinarian: Not what you would expect, but more! Dr. Nancy Hannaway will focus on USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service and the role that veterinarians play in the agency
Wexner Never a Dull Moment as a Shelter Medicine Vet This presentation by Dr. Morton will focus on the day in life of a shelter medicine veterinarian
11:15 – 11:45 Dunlap Overview of the Animal Science Undergraduate Program Mariette Benage
Wexner ACL Tear in Dogs – When your dog starts limping in the rear Dr. Bianca Hettlich
VMCA A Day in the Life of an Equine Vet by Dr. Rachel Liepman. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend a day in your vet's shoes? This will give you a little glimpse into what the typical day is like for an equine vet-both in the clinic and out on the road. There will even be some fun trivia to test your horsey knowledge.
12:30 – 1:30 VMCA A Special Presentation by the Columbus Zoo Attendees will learn about and see some of the animals that travel with Jack Hanna
