Intervet/Schering-Plough awards top bovine veterinary students

Two Ohio State bovine veterinary students were among the eight award winners from across the United States who received a special student recognition award sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health. Brian Hartschuh and Elizabeth Homerosky each received $1,500 awards and an all-expenses-paid trip to the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) annual conference in Albuquerque in August .

Thanks to a special partnership between the College of Veterinary Medicine and Sinclair Broadcasting, special news segments about the Ohio State Veterinary Medical Center are running the week of August 16-20 on Good Morning Columbus, on Fox affiliate Channel 28, and the 5 p.m. news on ABC affiliate Channel 6. The spots are featured on each station's web site in a special News Features section. 

Rosol elected to 6-year term on National Research Council

Dr. Tom RosolDr. Thomas Rosol, Professor of Veterinary Biosciences and Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research, has been elected by the national House of Delegates of the American Veterinary Medical Association to the Council on Research. Rosol was elected from nominees from different state associations and organizations. The AVMA Council on Research is composed of ten voting members that serve 6-year terms.

Focus-Forward Weekend examines the future of veterinary medicine

"Focus-Forward Weekend: Charting the course for the future of veterinary medicine," from Thursday (8/12)-Saturday (8/14) at the Fawcett Center, will provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, alumni, friends, university administrators and industry partners to explore the veterinary profession's responsibility to meeting current global challenges. Joerg Ohle, president and general manager of Bayer Animal Health North America, will present the Thursday evening keynote address. Read more:

2010 Merial NIH National Veterinary Scholars Symposium

The 10th Annual Merial NIH National Veterinary Scholars Symposium took place in early August at the University of Georgia. Faculty and staff accompanied 11 Ohio State students from the college's Summer Research Program and one graduate student from the college to the symposium. The theme this year, "Beyond One Health," focused on the convergence of veterinary, human and environmental health. The students attended seminars, networked with their peers and mentors from other universities, and presented their summer research projects in two poster sessions.

Veterinary Medical Center featured on news

Collaboration with Channels 6 (ABC affiliate) and 28 (Fox affiliate) is currently underway to put together a news/advertising campaign focused on the Veterinary Medical Center called "Healthier World for Animals." The main part of the campaign will run during the week of August 16: five 90-second news stories will be featured Monday through Friday during "Good Day Columbus" on Fox 28 and during the 5 p.m. news on ABC 6. For 10 weeks after the stories air, a series of five different :30-second commercials will run promoting the Veterinary Medical Center.
