Dr. Thomas Rosol recently met with the AVMA Council on Research in Washington, D. C. The council members met with congressional legislative representatives on Capitol Hill to advocate for three initiatives including the Veterinary Medicine Mobility Act (HR1528/S1171), the USDA Research Enterprise and the Farm Bill, and NIH Research and Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Rosol visited staff in the offices of Senator Portman and Representative Tiberi to explain the importance of the ability of veterinarians to transport controlled substances in their practice vehicles and the critical need for research funding for animal research for both animal and human health. The council members were also visited by the two congressional representatives who are veterinarians (Drs. Ted Yoho and Kurt Schrader) to discuss the needs and issues for veterinarians and animal research. This is the first time the Council on Research met in Washington and they agreed that the visit was worthwhile in support of the AVMA governmental agenda.
