The Department of Veterinary Clinical
Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces
an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical-track or tenure-track
faculty position in comparative ophthalmology. Candidates must have a DVM or
equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (ACVO and/or ECVO) is
preferred, but board-eligible candidates will also be considered. An advanced
degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track
candidates. The appointee will join the section of Comparative Ophthalmology
within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, which is currently
comprised of two faculty, two residents, and two technicians.
The ophthalmology service is located within
the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center and referral center with
state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including several operating
microscopes with digital imaging, phacoemulsification systems, laser and
endolaser capability, ocular high-resolution ultrasound and electrodiagnostics.
Teaching responsibilities will include
lectures, laboratories, and clinical teaching of medical and surgical
ophthalmology and related topics to students, interns, residents, and graduate
students. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse small and
large animal caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service
to clients and referring private practitioners and the provision of leading-edge,
comprehensive, and compassionate patient care. Faculty members are expected to
be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education,
committee service, and curriculum development.
Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up
to 75% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical
teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored
research is not required for clinical track faculty, but clinical research,
publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary
medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates will be given at
least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an extramurally
funded research program in ophthalmology that includes collaboration with other
scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in
peer-reviewed journals. Candidates with emerging or established research
programs can expect to be supported with highly competitive research startup
packages.
Faculty members are encouraged to develop
collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and
across the University. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in
the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine
within the College as well as other units across the University campus, including
the comprehensive OSU
Health Sciences
Center, which is within
walking distance of the College. The College
