Restricted Discussion Area

If selected in the Additonal Options section during New Category creation you will be given the option of creating the Restricted Discussion Area for the groups associated with the Category you just created.

If you have already created Forums and Topics in the Disucssion Board of the course, you will see the first Forum on your Forum listing in the Forums dropbox on the Create Restricted Topics screen. You will have the ability to create a new form by clicking the New Forum link.

If you have not already created Forums and Topics in the Discussion Board of the course, you will see a blank Forums dropbox on the Create Restricted Topics screen. You will have the ability to create a new forum by clicking the New Forum link.

Note: Instructions for creating a Discussion Board can be found in the Discussion Board Quick Lesson.

For the purpose of this lesson we will create a new forum.

Click the New Forum link.

Forums must have a title.

Enter "Dissection Lab" in the Title field.

Descriptions are optional but provide additional information to students. This is particularly helpful if multiple forums are listed in the Discussion Board.

Enter "This space is for discussing issues regarding your specimens for the dissection laboratory" in the Description field.

Click Save to continue creating the Restricted Discussion Area.

Note: Fields marked with a red asterisk () are required.

The Title you entered for the new Forum will be displayed in the Forums dropbox box.

You may create additional forums by clicking the New Forum link or continue configuring the Additional Options.

For the purpose of this lesson we will continue to configuring the Additional Options.

Click Create and Next.

By clicking Create and Next the forum Dissection Lab will be created with 10 private group discussion topics labeled Group 1 through Group 10. This is where each group may discuss issues related to their dissection lab.
