Once you have customized your widget click the Release Conditions tab. This will allow you to add additional restrictions on who can view the widget on the homepage based on specific qualifications within Carmen.

To add a release condition click the Create and Attach () link.

Note: The Attach Existing () link does nothing as there is no way to save release conditions for later use. Using this options will return an error.

You will see a popup window listing Condition Type and Condition Details.

Click the Condition Type dropdown listing to see the available types of conditions for this news item. Each Condition Type has specific details that will be shown once the type has been selected.

For the purpose of this lesson we will select Score on a Quiz from the Quizzes section of Condition Type. If your course does not utilize quizzes, select a different Condition Type.

Note: If you are not utilizing all available tools within Carmen selecting a particular Condition Type that is associated with an unused tool will result in no Condition Details being available.

Once you have selected the appropriate Condition Type click the Condition Details dropdown to select the corresponding option to the type of condition you selected above.

For the purpose of this lesson we will select "Generic Quiz".

Note: If your course does not utilize quizzes, select a different option.

Once you have selected the Condition Details click the Criteria dropdown to select how Carmen will apply the chosen condition type and detail.

Select a value from the dropdown listing. For the purposes of this lesson we will select ">=" as the criteria.

Enter the appropriate information for Carmen to be able to apply your chosen release condition Criteria.

Different Condition Details have different Criteria and Information options.

Note: If you are releasing based on a quiz score you must have added an item to the grade book which will hold the score of the quiz. In addition, you must either monitor student quiz activity or have the quiz automatically calculate the grade for this option to work correctly.

Make sure you click Create at the bottom right of the popup window to save your chosen release condition before continuing.

Once you create the release condition you will see it listed in the Release Conditions section. This is your verification you have added a release condition to the widget.

Verify that you have added the correct release condition to the widget.

Note: Use release conditions sparringly. Typically adding one release condition is sufficient to restrict student access if you have considered what is the highest level option that will restrict student access. Adding too many release conditions may render your widget unviewable as it may be impossible to satisfy all conditions. Release conditions act as 'and' options, not 'or' i.e., the student must satisfy ALL conditions before being able to view the widget.

Once you have verified your Release Condition(s) ^is/_are correct, click Save at the bottom right of the Edit Widget screen. You will see a message just below the Carmen course navigation showing the widget has been saved (date and time).
