News creation complete

You did it!

You have created a News item to enable students to have sufficient information to work within your course!

In addition to News, there are many other tools available within the Carmen system which enable you to create engaging course experiences which will help your students cognitive abilities as they move through their veterinary medical curriculum, and beyond.

Other tools include:

  • Blog
    • Allows creation of a blog within your course which allows students to post messages or talk amongst themselves on topics of interest to them. Blog postings are available to anyone with a Carmen login, not just students within a particular course.
  • Calendar
    • Allows creation of upcoming events and highlighting of important dates and times for course projects and assignments.
  • Chat
    • Allows creation of specific 'rooms' where students can participate in live chat with eachother on particular topics of interest to them. Chat rooms can be personal (only specific students may enter) or general (all students in the course may enter).
  • Checklist
    • Allows creation of a listing of elements students are required to complete as part of their course experience. This is helpful if a complicated course schedule with multiple assignments and due dates is utilized.
  • Competencies
    • Allows creation of levels of competency for automatic grading of online course assignments or performance items within a course. Must be used in conjunction with Rubrics.
  • Content
    • Allows creation of areas of concentration for posting of class notes, lecture materials, videos and other course-related information
  • Dropbox
    • Allows creation of multiple repositories where students are able to electronically submit course assignments to be graded. Also allows for faculty feedback to the student. Dropboxes are private for each student.
  • Edit Course
    • Allows an instructor to administer their course including creating content modules, topics, managing files and setting up groups
  • FAQ
    • Allows creation of a Frequently Asked Questions section where students may go to find answers to questions the instructor finds valuable
  • File Manager
    • Allows creation of repositories for individual course files within the Carmen course shell. This is similar in scope to your My Documents folder on your computer.
  • Glossary
    • Allows creation of an area within the course where students may go to find definitions of pre-defined course terminology
  • Grades
    • Allows creation of an online grade book within the course to facilitate collecting student grades and calculation of points toward the final course grade. The grade book can also be utilized with automatic grading if combined with Quizzes and Competencies/Rubrics.
  • Groups
    • Allows creation of groupings of students within the class listing to facilitate group projects, group assignments, group discussions and group dropboxes
  • Homepages
    • Allows creation of custom homepages for your course. Many options are available and may be combined with Widgets for incorporating imagery or videos on the course homepage
  • News
    • Allows creation of a section of the course homepage for posting of information relative to the course. This is often utilized for posting examination results or changes in the course schedule.
  • Quizzes
    • Allows creation of online quizzes for students to be able to test themselves on pre-defined information. Quizzes may include random questions and answers as well as include multiple attempts and automatic grading.
  • Rubrics
    • Allows creation of custom grading schemes for competency tracking or general course content. Must be used in conjunction with Competencies.
  • Self Assessments
    • Allows creation of short examinations where students can test their knowledge on pre-defined areas of the course prior to taking a graded examination
  • Statistics

  • Surveys
    • Allows creation of surveys within the course to ask students specific questions regarding their experiences
  • User Progress
    • Allows the instructor to monitor who has visited particular content items and determine the amount of time spent on each item. This is valuable if students state they have been unable to understand a particular point. The instructor can check to see whether students have visited the content item associated with the experience.
  • Widgets
    • Allows creation of custom areas within the course homepage to highlight items of interest including imagery or videos. Used in conjunction with Homepages.

Check this site often as new learning modules are being created and will be added soon.
