Once you have clicked the Edit Course link you will see a listing of links you, as an instructor, are able to take to administer your course.

Click the Groups () link to begin creating a group.

From the Manage Groups page you can create new categories/groups as well as navigate to all Course Administration Tools available to you as an instructor in Carmen.

Each Group in Carmen has a top-level category within which it resides.

Think of this as a file cabinet:

• the drawers are the Categories
• the individual files within the drawers are the Groups.

For our purposes we will create two Categories:

• Lab
  • For a course with a lab component
• Project
  
  • For a course that allows students to work together on a research project

Creating two categories will allow you to put the same students into different groups for purposes of group communication and assignment grading.
