Would you like to do anything to further evaluate the eyes?
An ophthalmoscopic exam of the eyes is indicated to rule out intraocular disease. This was normal in this case. A Schirmer tear test is indicated to determine tear production and rule out keratoconjunctivitis sicca. The results were normal in this case. Chlamydia can be diagnosed in some cats in the early stages of infection by examining for epithelial cell cytoplasmic inclusions (see arrow) in stained conjunctival scrapings. However, this case was negative for chlamydia inclusions. The cornea of each eye should be stained with fluorescein to identify ulceration. A superficial ulcer is identified. |

How would you describe this corneal ulcer and what is its significance?
