Santosh Dhakal, DVM, MS, Phd Candidate in the Food Animal Health Research Program at Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, has been selected as a Presidential Fellow by The Ohio State University Graduate School. The Presidential Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the Graduate School to recognize the outstanding scholarly accomplishments and potential of graduate students entering the final phase of their dissertation research or terminal degree project. Recipients of this award embody the highest standards of scholarship across the full range of graduate programs at Ohio State.
Dr. Dhakal is currently mentored by Dr. Renukaradhya Gourapura with OARDC FAHRP, and his research focuses on the development of an innovative and broadly cross-reactive swine flu vaccine candidate to combat swine flu outbreaks in pigs in the United States. This has led to 14 peer-reviewed articles, four of which are first author and he is a co-inventor in a currently pending patent application.
In his research Dr. Dhakal has been credited for his passion for science, his ability to “fearlessly launch into new fields and new techniques” and his ability to constantly question his own results and use those to further drive his scientific inquiry with a broad approach but a clear focus of interest.
