Reporting a breach or exposure

If you suspect a breach or exposure, notify your manager or Department Chair and VIS immediately. In the case of theft, a police report will also need to be filed.

Data breach
Restricted or limited access data is accessed by an unauthorized person or people.
Data exposure
Restricted or limited access data is made available, regardless of intent, to an unauthorized person or people. Exposure implies that a breach may have occurred.

Getting secure - what YOU can do

  1. Required: Take the Carmen Institutional Data Policy online course (under "Offices of the CIO" in the "Ongoing" section)
  2. Become aware of, and start using behavior that will protect your data
  3. Download the Institutional Data Policy at a Glance Adobe PDF File and review it periodically
  4. Attend a CVM data security training session - review the PowerPoint slides Adobe PDF File
  5. Take appropriate measures to secure your data - if you don't know how, call VIS, we'd love to help
