The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for two faculty positions (clinical-track or tenure-track) in neurology and neurosurgery. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (ACVIM-Neurology or ECVN) is preferred, but board-eligible candidates will also be considered. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates.

Faculty will join a board certified neurologist within the Veterinary and Comparative Neurology/Neurosurgery Program. The program is located within the comprehensive veterinary teaching hospital and referral center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including but not limited to diagnostic imaging, electrodiagnostics, physical therapy/rehabilitation, and neuropathology. Selected diagnostic imaging capabilities include digital radiography, on-site spiral CT and linear accelerator and daily access to a 3T MRI unit, which is operated by the OSU Department of Radiology and is in close proximity. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 50 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The College of Veterinary Medicine is ranked 5th among North American colleges of veterinary medicine by US News and World Report. The Ohio State University was recently ranked third nationally in the list of best places to work in academia, according to The Scientist magazine. Columbus is the 15th ranked city by size in the United States (population of 730,000) and supports a vibrant, multifaceted community.

Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, labs, and clinical teaching of veterinary medical and surgical neurology and related topics to professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The appointee is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients and referring private practitioners and the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care. Faculty are expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. Participation in continuing education events and outreach activities for the public and private practitioners is expected. Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 80% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, but clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates will be given at least 50-75% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an extramurally funded research program in neurology/neurosurgery that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Faculty are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and across the university. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine within the College as well as other units on the university campus including the comprehensive OSU Health Sciences Center, which is within walking distance of the College. The Division of Imaging Research, the Wright Center of Innovation in Biomedical Imaging, the Center of Molecular Neurobiology, the Neurobiology of Disease Institute and the Neurosciences Signature Program are a just a few of the resources available to clinicians and research scientists interested in neurology.
