Financing your veterinary medical education requires careful planning and can be a complex process. In keeping with our philosophy, the CVM provides personal service to help lessen the financial hardship through scholarships and loans. If you have questions about financial aid, please contact Ms. Jane Woodland at e-mail.
Your first step in this process begins with the Personal Identification Number (PIN). You will need your Federal Student Aid PIN to access and sign the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or your Renewal FAFSA. If you do not have a PIN, apply for one at http://www.pin.edu.gov/.
Apply for financial aid by submitting the FAFSA or the Renewal FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.edu.gov/ by OSU's priority processing date of March 1. We will begin processing your financial aid in LATE JUNE and notification will follow. You can apply after this date, but applying early will prevent delays in your financial aid award notification. Be sure to list Ohio State University as one of your school choices. Our federal school code is 003090. Do not leave any blank when completing the FAFSA with your OR your parents' information. If the answer is zero, then put "0". This is especially important in "Asset Information." Leaving blanks can hold up your financial aid process.
Please note: You may not be informed of your admission decision prior to the financial aid priority deadline which is March 1. You should, however, still apply for financial aid by that priority deadline. Applicants are usually notified by June of their financial aid awards for the upcoming year.
By completing the FAFSA, you will be considered for the following types of aid:
You are strongly encouraged to provide PARENT INFORMATION on the FAFSA. Even though you are considered INDEPENDENT for all types of financial aid, federal guidelines require the parent information in order to be considered for the Health Professions Student Loan. This is a low interest loan that has a 12 month grace period before repayment after graduation as oposed to the 6 month grace period offered by the Stafford Loan Program. Providing parent information is OPTIONAL. It does not affect your dependency status. It DOES affect your chance of receiving the Health Professions Student Loan and certain other scholarships that require parent information from the Federal Government. Non-resident students should definitely provide parent information as the Federal Stafford Loan limits will no longer cover your entire cost of attendance.
If you are a NON-RESIDENT STUDENT, you can establish OHIO RESIDENCY if you meet certain requirements in your first year of enrollment. These requirements are established by the UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR www.ureg.ohio-state.edu.
Students are notified about the availability of scholarships via e-mail, fliers, and personal contact. All CVM students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of all available scholarship opportunites to help minimize their debt load.
The CVM Scholarship Committee and donors have established a system to spread resources amongst the students.
Some of the scholarships are awared by the college by considering:
